More On Looking For Alien Life
I can’t help but wonder why scientists looking for extraterrestrial life always seem to compare the conditions for life to the conditions necessary for human life. As I have said many times, alien life might exist anywhere. Just because we need certain conditions, doesn’t mean any or all of those conditions would be necessary for alien life. We don’t even know what alien life could be based on. Human life is carbon based. There is some irony in this however since carbon dioxide is blamed for global warming.
Recently a couple of scientists have come out with an incredible statement. They said life might be able to exist even on the sun. This is probably the most incredible statement made about alien life. They didn’t say it did exist, just that it might be able to exist. It reminds me of the old joke where one nation said they were sending astronauts to the sun. When they were asked isn’t it too hot? They replied they will be going at night. There have been a couple of cases where strange things have been seen by the sun. Some look like they might have been alive, but these have been attributed to birds flying in the air which seem to be on the sun. What hasn’t been explained to my satisfaction is the fact what look like spaceships have been photographed many times around the sun by the government’s NOAA solar telescope. Photos have been released over the years even showing objects passing through the sun and coming out the other side.
There are so many ways extraterrestrials could be so different from us. First of all, we may not be able to see them. This might not be because of their technology but because human eyesight is very limited. What we see is due to different wavelengths the object we are looking at puts out. Our eyes on average can detect 380 to 720 nanometers. This is known as the visible light spectrum. We cannot see the lower ranges such as the infrared and radio spectrum. Above our vision there is the ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma ray spectrum. There are a few of us who possess a condition named aphakia, a condition caused by removal of the lens in our eyes which blocks ultraviolet light. As for colors, the average person is credited with being able to see about one million colors.
If an alien life form is beyond these parameters, we wouldn’t know they were there. Could the paranormal exist but be beyond our detection? With all the galaxies in the universe and the many billions of worlds, it seems there would have to be every type of extraterrestrial. This would most certainly mean there is a good chance there could be some which we couldn’t detect. There are also other factors which we have to take into consideration.
Aliens which are from an advanced race might have devices which keep them hidden. They might have a mindset that advertising their presence is just too dangerous to let happen. There are a lot of people on earth that feel the same way. Several scientists have given their opinion and said if an advanced race finds out we are here and visits, we will be like the Aztecs when the Spanish arrived. That didn’t turn out very well for them.
There is a thought which states we are the aliens and the race we came from changed our bodies for some reasons. One of those reasons was the aliens were dying out and wanted to use us as a reserve to keep the original race going and that is why there are so many stories about human men being abducted and forced to have sex with alien women. It is thought to be for preservation of the species. This is a very minor belief however.
There are so many things we need for life. We need food, water, shelter, certain temperature ranges, and procreation. Extraterrestrials may not need some of these things or even any of them. Some might be as tough as stone and not move their whole lives while others might be far more fragile than us. There are just so many possibilities. Some may have such short life spans they live out a long life in just a couple of seconds because time is different for them. They would think we didn’t move in many cases. Remember in their time a human footstep would take about 1/3 of their lifetime. To some other races the time we live in could be passing superfast.
Then there is the idea of the multiverse where we live in every possibility. There might be thousands of us living there performing every possible decision we could make in a situation. I can’t buy that one, it just seems impractical. Any world or worlds where there is more of the same person feels this way to me. I do think there is a possibility of other worlds which are similar to ours in many ways such as technical, human and ideas. I think there is bound to be alien races which look like us.
What I do not think is every alien will have a head, two arms and legs and a body like ours. In those old science fiction movies from the 1950s and 1960s many of the aliens looked nothing like us and we might find these depictions were more accurate than we thought at the time.
How will we react if we meet aliens so horrible looking to us, we have to be trained not to react with revulsion either because of their looks or the way they smell? Maybe the shoe would be on the other foot. Could it be we might smell bad to aliens or be horrible looking? Nothing is out of the question. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
There is also the question of intelligence. Could some extraterrestrials be so much smarter than us, they would consider humans a sub species? Then there is the other question would they also consider humans too dangerous to be allowed to live? Would we feel that way about an alien race we discover? Some countries on this planet have shown they are not beyond wiping out a race in the past.
There are just so many questions which we have no answers for which concern alien contact including the chance of contacting a disease which could wipe us all out or wipe out the aliens.
