More Sightings Investigated By Project BLUE BOOK

In the days when we use to admit the government was looking into UFOs there had been several different projects at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The first one had no name, at least no name we were aware of and it lasted from June 30, 1947 to January 26, 1948. The second investigative UFO project was named Project SIGN and this lasted from January 26, 1948 until February 11, 1949. After that we had Project GRUDGE which lasted from February 12, 1949 until August 10, 1949. Project GRUDGE was deactivated from August 10, 1949 until July 7, 1950, but was activated again on July 7, 1950 until October 22, 1951. Something called the new Project GRUDGE was started on October 22, 1951 and lasted until March 25, 1952. This brings us to Project BLUE BOOK which started on March 25, 1952 and lasted until January 30, 1970. As you can see Project BLUE BOOK ran for a long time, almost 18 years.

While Project BLUE BOOK may sound impressive, it really wasn’t. We think many things we are told by the government today are just baloney, but what many of us don’t realize is this baloney has been served to us for a very long time. While many people thought the government was using BLUE BOOK to investigate whether UFOs were alien craft, what they were really doing was providing excuses for everything that was reported. Project BLUE BOOK was nothing more than a cover-up and there weren’t even enough people assigned to it to give a true credibility. BLUE BOOK investigations were conducted by the US Air Force. The sad part of the whole thing was the fact a Captain named Ruppelt who was the first head of BLUE BOOK really wanted to get to the bottom of UFOs and he implemented many changes which made it easier to report UFO sightings. This soon changed when he decided not to give any serious investigations to reported UFO landings and interactions with their crews. An astronomer was assigned to the project named J. Allen Hynek. As time went by this astronomer, who had never believed UFOs were from other worlds became a believer. He had heard so much evidence he decided it just couldn’t be ignored anymore. When Captain Ruppelt left BLUE BOOK there was no longer any hope the project would continue as a serious project and not just an excuse machine.

Project BLUE BOOK investigated thousands of cases over the years. Here are a few which have never been explained sufficiently. The first one was a sighting in Wurtsmith Air Force Base on February 17, 1953. Two officers and three airmen saw an object larger and brighter than a star in the sky and this object was changing colors. The sighting lasted from 10:04 to 10:25 PM. The object had also been tracked on radar. As the men watched, the object slowly faded and radar lost the object in ground clutter. The Air Force thought the sighting might have been due to a helicopter, but when they checked no helicopters were in the area at that time. So what was it these experienced Air Force personnel saw? As I said this has never really been explained.

On January 1, 1954 at Toms River, Malton, Woodbury and Surf City in New Jersey something very strange was seen in the sky. Many witnesses saw the objects, including a Navy pilot from Lakehurst naval station, a police chief and other police officers and at least 20 more witnesses. What they saw were up to 12 round or oval white objects with fuzzy edges slightly smaller than the full moon in angular size from where they stood, in a sighting which lasted 1 ½ hours as the objects circled each other. One witness attempted to drive nearer to the objects and as he did the objects moved further away. As they moved they showed incredible speed far in excess of the capabilities of anything on earth. Several witnesses used binoculars and the consensus was these objects had moved at a speed of about 90,000 mph. No explanation for what these people saw was ever released.

On December 11, 1955 a sighting of a UFO was made near Jacksonville Florida at 9 PM. Two airline pilots along with ground crews saw a maneuvering orange red object which seem to be round and ground radar was tracking it. The navy sent two jets which had been in the air on a practice run toward the object and as they got closer the object suddenly rose 30,000 feet then dove back down in a circle buzzing the jets and then disappeared. Obviously the object was under intelligent control. This is the type of thing Project BLUE BOOK might have said was swamp gas. UFO investigators couldn’t help but laugh at some of the explanations that were being given.

On April 8, 1956 American flight 775 took off from Albany. It was about 600 feet north of Schenectady when a brilliant white light about 2 to 3 miles away was spotted about 90° to the left. At first it was thought to be an airliner landing at the airport, but then the white light moved rapidly and positioned itself in front of the airliner about 8 to 10 miles away at a speed which was estimated to be somewhere between 800 to 1,000 mph. The color of the object changed to orange and it seemed it had placed itself in a position where there would be a collision, but then it disappeared briefly and then reappeared again ahead of the airliner. Controllers asked the pilot to turn his lights on and off to try and identify the craft in front of the plane. As the UFO headed away from the airliner which was loaded with passengers, it was ordered to follow the UFO until interceptors could arrive. One has to wonder how the passengers felt about this. Later the Air Force denied ever issuing this orders, but a teletype survived showing the orders were issued. It was said the plane was just following the planet Venus.

On May 22, 1956 an Air Force officer was piloting his T-33 jet. In the backseat of the plane was an accident investigation officer. As they were flying along they saw a bright light due east at 11:05 PM. It disappeared then appeared again at 11:15 PM. The pilot positioned his plane behind the UFO and the UFO turned and came straight at him passing in front of the plane at about 225 feet away under the nose. There was no jet wash. As the object passed them it flashed an extremely bright light on the plane. The light seem to be coming from a dome on the craft. It lit up everything under the canopy of the jet. It was said the UFO was between 30 and 40 feet long and had an elliptical shape. It had a red light in its center, no wings, but it did have stubby protrusions extending 3 to 4 feet. The object moved away and it was said it had fantastic maneuverability as it disappeared after it reached about a distance of 60 miles.

There are plenty more of these sightings to look into and I will sometime in the future.
