Off World Construction What is amazing to me is the fact we have now reached a level of technology which will allow us to use materials found on other worlds in conjunction with 3D printers to build structures in those places. For years, when the idea of building structures on places like the moon and Mars were thought about, one of the problems which was believed to exist was getting all the construction materials to those worlds. It was thought it could require many more rocket loads of material to do this. Now it is being said we will be able to build on other worlds with a few machines and 3D printers using what we find as construction materials. Some people have put forward a theory which states we have done this before. They claim some of the photos from NASA which were taken during the time of the Apollo landings show structures made of a type of glass. They say they also show wrecked glass domes over some craters. This glass is said to have come from materials on the moon. If they are right this could mean it is at least our second time around at this level of technology and maybe more, or it could also mean aliens have built structures on the moon in the past. The earth is said to be 4 ½ billion years old and assuming that date is correct, there certainly could have been other civilizations on the earth before us. These civilizations could have reached our current state of technology or gone beyond it. The people who have this theory ask what happened to them if they did exist? Some say they left the planet Earth and when into space. Others say they were destroyed in a war and perhaps were taken back to the Stone Age and they were us. We may find out the answer to this question someday. Meanwhile, I think there is a possibility we may have gotten into a war among ourselves. That might explain the remnants of isotopes found in some places which are said to only come from a nuclear explosion. Since we are talking about building structures on the moon, scientists have announced the delicate dust called regolith which is all over the moon would make excellent bricks after it was melted with a laser. They claim a 3D printer would be perfect. They also say they could just use these bricks in a normal way to build the structure. Here is the kicker however, the scientists claim they could turn this dust into oxygen. At least that is the opinion of the European Space Agency. I personally didn’t know this but it is claimed that the dust contains 40% to 50% oxygen. The claim is there are oxides binding it so that is why it is not released. It is claimed there is a procedure called salt electrolysis which can release this oxygen. Previously we thought we would need to find water on the moon, probably in the form of ice, to extract oxygen from it. Moon dust is far more prevalent and using it would make things a lot easier. This makes me wonder if there is any way the moon could retain an atmosphere if all this oxygen was released at once. I know the moon doesn’t have a magnetic field which is a big problem. The scientists claim releasing this oxygen is a win, win process. They say this because it will leave us with metal alloys which can then be used. There are those people who believe there are already bases on the moon and these are human bases. There are a few photos of the dark side of the moon which seem to indicate a base may be there. One of the problems is many pictures seem to be edited. While some say this is paranoid thinking, NASA has a long history of edited photos and has been court many times. One of the annoying things they do is if an interesting photo has been discovered where it is obvious something has been airbrushed over, that photo will disappear from the NASA photo base, never to be seen again. It is exasperating to many of us. There have been quite a few reports of moon bases which have been alternately called alien or human. Some people suspect while the Apollo program was going on, there was a military program which was more advanced and sent people to the moon first were eventually bases were constructed. This is certainly a possibility, but there is no way to prove it even though Air Force astronaut uniforms were found with name tags from many decades ago in a NASA facility in a room which had been closed for a long time. We have no record of Air Force astronauts from that time. Recently, an investigator claims to have seen a 4 kilometer wide structure in a crater on the moon which he said was 3 kilometers high. The structure is said to be in Eratosthenes crater. In standard photos of this crater I do not see the structure, but on a video on YouTube the structure appears in the center of the crater. This raises an interesting question, is the structure being hidden from us as sometimes happens with NASA, or is there no structure there at all? The structure shown to us can be viewed at the following address which you can type into your browsers address area: Scientists have discovered a way to use living materials in the creation of bricks and other construction materials. The idea was to create a material which would be able to repair itself and now it is said to have been accomplished. Material which repairs itself has been a dream for ages. Certain polymers were put into materials like cement. The idea was if the cement cracked the polymer would flow into the cracks and repair the cement. This has gotten mixed reviews. The new concrete that I’m referring to has been called a Frankenstein material. Photosynthetic microbes are used as the base. The material itself is claimed to be able to reproduce. The minerals in the new cement are not deposited by chemistry, but by microbes which have captured energy through photosynthesis. One of the incredible things about this new concrete is unlike the concrete we use today which produces carbon dioxide, the new concrete, or should I say the living concrete absorbs carbon dioxide. The material has a natural green color but after it is used in construction the color will fade. We have yet to see how this new concrete would act off world.
