Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and UFOs

When we hear people talking about UFOs most of the talk is just about their personal opinions. If we get the chance to listen to someone who was in power in our government talk about UFOs, it gives us a chance to get some insight on what is going on not only with that person, but also in the government. Enter Harry Reid. Reid is a retired senator from Nevada and was once the Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate and then the Minority Leader before he retired. The really interesting part of Reid’s life is he was and still is interested in UFOs and made no bones about it. I find it interesting he was a Nevada senator since Nevada has a nuclear test site which was established in the early 1950s and we have been told by many people who were in the know every nuclear test had UFOs watching it. Is this one of the reasons Reid is so interested in UFOs?

Reid gave an interview to a reporter from New York Magazine about what he knows about UFOs and it also includes the names of some of his close associates who he spoke to about them and who spoke to him. He said he was not interested in the science behind them, but he was interested in them since there were so many sightings. One thing he said he found very interesting among others was when he was introduced to a military pilot and he asked him if he had ever seen any UFOs. The pilot said of course we all have, but no one wants to talk about it because if could affect their careers. Even though many of us knew this already it is still interesting to hear a pilot coming out and making this statement.

I think in this case Reid’s politics don’t matter, all that matters is he wanted to get to the bottom of the UFO question. Reid said he became interested in UFOs while he was a young lawyer and worked on an airplane crash case which killed the passengers. I thought he was going to say a UFO caused the crash, but this was not the case at all. What it did have to do with UFOs was one of the passengers who was killed was a wealthy rug manufacturer and when he died his son became wealthy and decided to investigate an area where his grandparents claimed to have seen a UFO. Reid got to know him and the son had become every wealthy selling real estate and held seminars on UFOs which Reid went to on the advice of George Knapp a famous reporter and follower of UFOs and odd cases. Knapp and Reid were good friends and I am sure Knapp’s interest in UFOs must have at least partially rubbed off on Reid.

Reid said one day the son called him, telling him he received a strange letter from a man claiming to be a scientist who wanted to meet with him and he asked Reid if he could forward the letter to Reid. Reid said yes since the topic dealt with UFOs and he contacted the man and after speaking to him awhile he felt the scientist was really what he claimed to be, a scientist for the federal national-security agency. He had specifically asked to talk to the son. He said he was interested in the things the son was talking about, which was the subject of UFOs. Reid told the son he would meet with this scientist and did. Reid was impressed with him. After that meeting the scientist met with the son. The scientist then met again with Reid and said something should be done about investigating UFOs and complained the U.S. was doing nothing and he bet other countries like China, Russia and others weren’t just sitting on their laurels.

Reid then contacted two other senators he was friends with. One was a Democrat and one a Republican. They controlled the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee at the time. They agreed something should be done. One of them Reid said was Senator Ted Stevens who when contacted by Reid and told what Reid wanted to do said he agreed because he had been a pilot in World War II and saw an unknown object off to the left of his plane. He said it was close and no matter how he maneuvered, the UFO would do the same. What must have really upset Stevens was the fact the air controllers didn’t see anything on their screens. Extra money was allotted to the defense appropriation bill to study aerial phenomena and the Pentagon put out bids for private companies to undertake this study. This went on for two years. Then the leadership changed and the federal government stopped the funding.

Reid said people like Luis Elizondo who was the head of the Pentagon’s Aerospace ID Program quit because he became disheartened. Reid said this was because the government wouldn’t take anything seriously anymore. Reid spoke about others who had been in the government who were also very interested in UFOs such as John Glenn and John Podesta. Reid was asked if Senator Glenn told him about any UFO experiences he had during his career and said they never spoke about that. He did say Podesta called him and spoke about things.

This interview did roll back some of the secrecy which overshadows UFOs in Washington D.C. The money which was put into the budget for two years to study UFOs was put in under Black Projects to keep it secret. Does this indicate that maybe the project is still ongoing and has gotten even more secret and probably more expensive? It very well could be. The interview also shows many more of our legislators are interested in this subject than they will admit to.
