When the James Webb telescope is launched by NASA it is going to be the biggest telescope ever sent into space and 100 times more powerful than the Hubble telescope. The problem is launching it successfully is only the first part of the mission. The telescope has to be put into a stationary spot in space, it wouldn’t do to have it orbiting the earth because telescopes have to be steady to lock on to their targets. In order to get it into a steady position there are only five spots where this is possible and they are called Lagrange Points. These are spots where the pull from the earth and the moon equal out. The Lagrange point where the Webb is being sent is about one million miles away and will mean the telescope has to be able to get there in 29 days without incident. Given the expense and the complexity of the telescope and the fact it will be a million miles away from earth, everything has to go perfectly. I don’t think if anything goes wrong there is any way we would send astronauts on a 58 day plus round trip to repair it even if they could.
Something strange is going on in the waters around Japan. There seems to be more volcanic activity than usual and it is caused a very strange event to happen. Not only did a new island get created, but warships from the battle of Iwo Jima are being revealed. No one has seen them in the last 35 years. The ships are Japanese.
There is one thing I don’t understand, well maybe not one thing, but anyway I always believed huge amounts of steel were worth a lot of money. You would never know this by what our country does. If you wanted to find the ships with the most steel, I believe it would be the biggest war ships. So why did the government sell two aircraft carriers, the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS John F. Kennedy for one cent each? It is not as if these were nuclear powered carriers so there is no reactor to be cleaned up. I just don’t get it.
A researcher from Oslo had started an interesting project many years ago. He claims particles from space sometimes land on roofs or gutters of houses and he believes this because years ago he found one on his white Veranda. This is an interesting thought and I don’t think anyone else has thought of it. The researcher spends much of his time photographing these places. He has found tens of thousands of these particles across the globe proving scientists wrong who said you couldn’t find these particles because they wouldn’t last long enough.
When we hear people talking about ghosts some wonder how long humans have suspected ghosts exist? I guess we can never figure out when that started, but a recent discovery turned up what is the oldest depiction of a ghost. It was drawn on a Babylonian tablet from 3,500 years ago. What the tablet shows is the ghost of a man being led back into the afterlife.
Researchers have discovered new materials with unique properties. It is a shape shifting material. It is said the material can hold any shape. The use for a material like this is practically unlimited. The difference between this new material and a shape shifting material we have before this is the older material can only hold a few different shapes but the new one can hold any shape. I wonder if this was inspired by shape shifting UFOs people have been seeing?
It is being said human brains were bigger 3,000 years ago. That time period is a key period in the human race. Human brains were said to have increased in size to that point. Scientists are mystified by this. My question would be are they continuing to shrink and if so, how does this affect human intelligence? Scientists also say human brains are bigger than indicated for our body size. Some scientists think our brains may have become more efficient and that is why they got smaller. I hope they are correct.
When a black hole draws in matter, sometimes a jet shoots out from the poles of the black hole. It has been found the range of these jets is incredible. That matter spreads out in the galaxy for hundreds of thousands of light years. As they drift further away filaments are created. The matter interacts with objects as it goes along and reaches vast distances.
A new exoplanet was discovered which is called an ultra-hot Jupiter. How hot is it? It is so hot iron gets vaporized. It then condenses and falls like rain onto the surface. The designation for the planet is WASP-76b. Scientists have found the planet is even hotter. They found it contained ionized calcium which suggests the first estimates of heat were too low. The planet is so close to a hot star that it completes an orbit every 1.8 days.
The remains of an ancient city from the Bronze Age, about 1650 B.C. was found. What was so unusual about the find was it had been wiped out by a rock from space. Scientists say they know this because some objects were melted into glass. They said temperatures reached greater than 2,000 degrees. The city was ten times bigger than Jerusalem.
When archaeologists in Mexico discovered the fact that the ancient races there were able to engineer the land and rivers the way they did, they were shocked at their proficiency. The changes they had made still affect the inhabitants today. When the ancient city of Teotihuacan was built, many of these abilities were noticeable. Also, another incredible fact is that city contains three pyramids perfectly constructed.
The United States has told South Korea it is going to lift restrictions on its missile production programs. This frees South Korea to develop it space program and also its defense program.
An incredible cave has been found under the city of Naples. Inside the cave is construction which is thought to date back to the ancient Greeks and the 5th century B.C. Inside the cave are passageways cut out of the rock. The walls are separated by six openings which let in light. At the end of the passage way is a rectangular room with a vestibule which leads to a smaller room where Sibyl made her predictions. There is some disagreement on this. The cave is known as the Sibyl cave.
