I have just seen something incredible, it is called History in 3D Ancient Rome 320 A.D. It is an accurate recreation of Rome and will blow your mind. Since it is on YouTube, I can’t link you to it but if you do a search with the title I gave you, you will find the video. Rome had to be one of the most beautiful and incredibly built cities not only of the ancient world, but even today would be considered one of the most beautiful. It must have been a painstaking job to accurately recreate these sights and I have to hand it to those who made this possible.
Is the space station falling apart? So far, space stations have a history of not lasting very long. We, and others have gone through several so far and it may be the time is coming to an end for the International Space Station. Recently, Cosmonauts have found a couple of cracks in the hull of the station. They said it will be necessary for a microscope to be used to detect small leaks. This is not good, but I guess we all know that. The tiny cracks are causing the station to lose more atmosphere every day. Right now, the situation is not an emergency yet since the loss of atmosphere is slight, but if a hole increases to a slightly bigger diameter there will be an emergency situation.
Two round metal objects in space might be ours. Let me explain, In the 1950s we conducted a nuclear test. The bomb was put down into a shaft 485 feet deep and a one half ton manhole cover was put over the shaft. When the bomb was detonated the manhole cover disappeared and was not recorded. This made the scientists wonder what happened to it. They decided to conduct another nuclear test under the same conditions, but this time used high speed cameras. They set off the bomb and were shocked to find the manhole cover was launched into space at a speed of 125,000 miles per hour which is five times escape velocity. This meant the manhole cover became a fast traveling object in space. We think of our atmosphere as burning up objects, but in this case, scientists have found they were moving too fast for that to have happened. It is believed that both manhole covers have already passed Pluto. Can you imagine if an alien found them and was trying to figure out what type of vehicles they were?
A pyramid was found in Egypt. I guess there is nothing unusual about that except for the fact this one is different. The pyramid was built by Senusret II about 4,000 years ago. It was built in an oasis region known as Faiyum. The pharaoh began work on an irrigation system. This increased the yield because the amount of cultivable land was increased. A trench was built around the pyramid and it was made to look like it was floating on water. Thus, the name the floating pyramid. Today the pyramid has suffered and looks more like a lump of dirt standing on the land.
Most of us know the Japanese art of paper folding is called origami. It is interesting, but I would hardly call it earth shattering, that is until now. It has been studied by scientists who are applying it to DNA. They believe they will be able to fold DNA into almost any shape they want. It is felt this will be instrumental in curing some diseases. Scientists are hoping the methods and tools to accomplish this will become standardized making it easier for them to work on their DNA projects.
It is being hailed as a technological marvel. It came out in 2020 and is probably the biggest bang for the buck anyone could get. I am talking about the Raspberry Pi Computer Module 4. It is a complete computer without a case for only $25.00. It is very tiny and yet has a quad core processor. It has all sorts of ports and a wireless option. It also has a camera interface and comes with at least one gig of memory. If someone likes to experiment with computers, this is a fun gadget to acquire.
Even America has some historical landmarks. I am talking about ones which far outdate the country being discovered. They lay along the Ohio Trail. One of them is the largest set of geometric earthworks in the entire world and is known as Newark. They are Mound City, Fort Ancient and Serpent Mound. Scientists believe most of these landmarks were built between 1 and 400 A.D. Again, scientists claim the people building these structures were hunter gatherers, but when this was said about a couple of other sites, many disagreed with this because of the time it would have taken to accomplish this. Hunter Gatherers move on when the food is exhausted, but it has been found some of the projects in some places took many years.
Now that the new Space Launch System is still experiencing problems, will the new president order it put on the back burner? This is the second problem in as many months and it is said there is a third problem being looked into with a switch malfunction. A lot of money is going to be spent on programs during this administration and they may be looking for places to save money and the idea of putting astronauts back on the moon by 2024 just might be a victim of budget cuts.
Scientists believe galaxies have black holes at their center, but they have found one where they cannot locate the black hole. They are looking at Abell 2261. They believe black holes put out X-rays and there has been no X-ray which seems to come from the center of that galaxy. Perhaps there is a black hole there which is not putting out X-rays, or the scientists are correct and the black hole is missing. If it is missing could it be because it never formed, or it did form and something happened to it?
Speaking about space again, scientists were very surprised to find two rogue stars which are traveling together. A rogue star is one which has been knocked out of orbit and is traveling through space on its own. In this case it is 2 stars. They are wandering through a system known as CFHTWIR-Oph 98. The objects are brown dwarf stars. Even though they are traveling together they are very far apart and the distance is 200 times further than earth is from the sun.
