Mysteries of the Universe and Life I have to admit there are some strange ideas being expressed about different things. One of the strangest seems to be the theory which states we are living in a computer simulation and it is so sophisticated, many of us don’t realize it. There has also been some talk which claims even we are not real; we only think we are when we are actually just characters created by this super computer. Am I to suppose I am just a creation of some artificial intelligence which has made me sentient? I have to say, I think the movie The Matrix has affected the thinking of some. When those who believe this theory talk about it, they claim the entire universe is involved. They have said the stars and planets we see are not really there. They could be partially right about this since when we look at objects the light from them is subject to the speed of light. What I mean is distance is key to how fast we can see the image of something. Just about everything we see is from past light. If a planet is 14 light minutes away, when we look at it in a telescope, we see it as it was 14 minutes ago. The planet could have been destroyed and we would not know it for that 14 minutes, but this has nothing to do with a computer simulation. Another part of this idea is when we look at something it disappears when we look away and appears again when we look back. Then there is that old question, if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it still make a sound? In a small way quantum physics has reinforced this theory, but only on the atomic level because watching a quantum physics experiment can change the result for it when done without anyone watching. So, what proof do these people think they have. One of their biggest claims is planets and stars disappear from their positions some times. To me the problem with using this has proof of a computer simulation is there could be any number of reasons for this. One which comes to mind is gravitational lensing. This is a natural occurrence where an object in the sky seems to be in several places at once. It could fail for some unknown reason and the object would disappear. An explosion could have wiped out a body in space or it could have become a rogue object. A rogue object is one which was knocked out of its orbit and flies free through space. There is no doubt space is strange and we still have a lot to learn. Many, including scientists think there is a size limit to our universe. They have measured how far it has expanded since the Big Bank and the distance they give is 13.8 billion years old, but something happened a couple of months ago a distant object was said to have been dated as being 33 billion years old. This might mean a couple of different things. The dating could be wrong, or there are objects left over from previous Big Bangs. Not all objects might be subject to the same rate of expansion and we haven’t found that out yet. The idea nothing can live in space because of radiation, lack of oxygen and so forth seems to be forming a crack. We found that algae formed on the outside of the space station. Tardigrades, which are microscopic and also known as water bears can survive in space for an unlimited amount of time. If we have found two life forms which can survive in space, it is possible even bigger organisms might be found that have this ability. Taking this a step further, there might even be intelligent aliens who could survive space. I would like to recite a story about this I heard and have talked about previously. Three Russian cosmonauts on a Russian space station reported there were aliens outside the space station and they seemed like plasma beings. They were said to have not been wearing protective suits. When the report was sent, the Russians sent up 3 more cosmonauts who then reported seeing the same aliens. Six cosmonauts saw alien creatures outside their space station. As with everything internet, we never know what is true or not and when talking about sightings much of them are secret, especially those involving government employees of any kind, even cosmonauts and astronauts. There are people who have reported seeing structures disappear. There have been people who swear a building was there and when they turned around to look at it again, it was gone. Could this be true or could it be someone’s mind was playing a trick on them? There is a story about a house which appears and disappears which some people claim to have seen. A lot more people have made a revelation about something very strange and that is disappearing objects around their homes. I am not talking about people losing something and not being able to find it, I am talking about things which are in one place and not there in the next. This has even frightened some people and has been credited to living in that computer simulation. The problem with calling this proof of anything could just come down to another person in the home taking the object and not admitting to it. A more believable story was the woman who was in the living room and dropped her ring. She couldn’t find it so she decided to tear the room apart and after hours of searching it just wasn’t there. Years later the ring appeared in the living room again. There are those who believe there are vortexes which pop up in places and things can fall through them, but there are others who blame that old computer simulation they think we are living in. Let’s say there are many strange things going on we can’t explain, but would that mean the simulation theory is true, or would it just mean there is much we are yet to learn about how the universe really works. I would put money on the lack of knowledge theory. I think we have proven we are still learning about life and the universe and we have solved some of the mysteries but we still have much further to go.
