Monsters Might Exist There are quite a few people who lived on this planet or who are even alive now who claim to have seen monsters. First let’s define what a monster is. To most of us it is a creature having a frightening appearance. To me I would have to add it is also something which doesn’t seem like an animal or person who belongs on this planet. How many times have you heard stories of dead monsters being washed up on beaches all over the world? One of the reasons people might think what they are looking at on the beach is a monster is it is from deep within the ocean and usually not seen because of that and some of these deep water creatures have a fearsome appearance with lots of sharp teeth and strange looking heads and bodies. I remember when someone found a creature on a beach on Long Island, New York, that looked very strange and it was called a monster. It didn’t help that Plum Island was not that far away and that is the place where it was said strange animal experiments were taking place. Once you hear something like this you begin to picture animals being turned into monsters by mad scientists. Humans have a past full of monsters. Many of which are mythical and a few were undiscovered creatures. Think about this, when the first Europeans came to America and saw a buffalo what did they think about this large animal? Did they think it was a monster? Maybe! Do monsters actually exist? The definition of monster also includes normal creatures of abnormal huge size for some. There are catfish in Africa that are over two meters in length and have been accused of eating small children who get too close. One monster that is said to have been mythical was the dragon, and yet there are those who believe it lived at one time. Saint George is the patron saint of England. It is said he slew the dragon and saved a village. In real life it is said he was a Roman soldier of Greek origin who was sentenced to death for not recanting his Christian faith. Was the dragon used as a symbol of the devil in this instance? When he slew the dragon in the story did that have to do with not recanting his religion? On the other hand, was there really a dragon ravaging the land? You have to wonder why dragons appear in almost every culture, even those which have no connections to each other and probably no contact. When the attack on the World Trade Center in New York took place, there was a giant plume of smoke which formed from one of the towers. It began to take the shape of a demon, or monster, and became the basis for many monster reports. I have to admit when I saw it, I could understand why many people felt the way they did. This type of thing has happened in other tragedies and I realize it is like looking at clouds and seeing things, but it still is very disturbing. One of the most famous monsters which is said to exist, but has never really been seen in its entirety is Nessie, the Loch Ness monster. There is much speculation about the creature, which is considered a monster, being a leftover aquatic dinosaur. Could there be dinosaurs which are still alive, but are in places where it is relatively uninhabited or deep in lakes and oceans? While no one claims to have seen the entire creature, some say they have seen parts of it. The truth is we cannot be sure it even exists. Some ancient cultures worshipped giant snakes, and we have found some which turned out to be huge in real life, making them monsters. The biggest snakes are the reticulated python which holds the record at 32 feet 9 ½ inches. There are others which while not as big are huge and heavy such as the Anaconda which can reach over 550 pounds and 20 feet long. Did some of the ancient people who worshipped snakes know at the time these huge monster snakes really existed and considered them gods? What would you call a zombie, would you call it a monster? There are those who think zombies are truly real. A zombie is defined as the body of a dead person brought back to life and possessed by an evil force. If one goes to Haiti, they will find the Voodoo religion and those who believe in this religion also believe zombies are real. I think that would definitely make them monsters as zombies are said to have evil intentions. It is needless to say, but zombies to us are creatures featured in horror movies, but as more Haitians come here the greater belief in zombies increases. Speaking about horror movies and monsters, monsters starring in horror movies have made many of them a success. One of the most famous horror movie monster is Godzilla. Godzilla comes with a crowd of other monsters which he seems to continuously fight. Sometimes he seems to be on the side of good, other times he stumbles around causing grief and destruction to Tokyo. There have been unsubstantiated claims of monsters being found in the ocean which have a human look to them. One which I saw was of a very long beast which had the upper body shape of a man and the rest was a long snake like body about 12 feet long. I don’t believe for one second this was not a photoshopped picture. I believe technically we would have to classify Bigfoot as a monster. There are plenty of Bigfoot stories and a few photos which seem to show a gorilla type beast roaming the isolated forests of the United States. This monster story has more to it than the others because some witnesses to a Bigfoot sighting have said they saw it coming out of a beam which was coming out of a UFO and aimed at the ground. This makes this monster story both monster and perhaps extraterrestrial. Look, you have to admit humans are fascinated with monsters and monster stories. Our fairy tales are filled with monsters and our children love this. Witches run amuck, as do giants, orcs and other monsters. We love monsters, but would we love them if we found a living one? I am not so sure. I guess we will just have to wait on that idea and see what happens.
