Other Dimensions and Colliders Now that a new accelerator is being added to the large Hadron Collider scientists can hardly control their enthusiasm. What is the cause of all this excitement? First of all let me explain about this new device. The device accelerates the speed of the particles smashing together, it is able to do this three times faster than the current device which is connected to the collider. So far this doesn’t explain very much, so let me put it another way. Scientists believe because of this increase in speed the collisions which take place between particles may reveal the presence of other dimensions. Speed has long been associated with such things as time travel and time is believed to be just another dimension by many scientists. Scientists are also hoping they will be able to prove dark matter and other scientific mysteries can be solved by these more powerful collisions. Could it be we will find during these collisions particles zip in and out of other dimensions? Lately the question of dimensions has been near the forefront of scientific investigation. The funny part about this is there could be other dimensions right in front of us and we may not have the proper equipment to recognize this. If one of us is told there is a fifth dimension, time being the fourth, how would we visualize this? Could any of us, even scientists, really tell us what a fifth dimension would look like, or what it would be like to be inside of one. There have been a lot of guesses made on what a fifth dimension would look like and even higher dimensions, but they are just guesses and it really doesn’t matter who makes them. because no one, no matter how accredited, can tell us anything about these higher dimensions because they have no proof. Years ago I did an interview with an inventor who believed there was an extra dimension and it contained energy. He had all sorts of equipment and was able to sporadically get energy from somewhere which was strong enough to lift heavy objects. As I said it was sporadic and didn’t always work, but he claimed the proof the energy dimension existed was the fact the energy being used was coming from there. If we could rollback time to the beginning of the 20th century we would find Nikola Tesla experimenting with getting energy from the atmosphere around us. Today many scientists are convinced we can tap into all this energy which produces things like lightning and use it to power our devices. It has nothing to do with extra dimensions and apparently is there for the taking if we can figure out how to do that. Getting back to the original inventor, it seems rather than tapping into another dimension he may be just tapping into this extra energy that is all around us. I would like to say something which I haven’t heard anybody else say and it is there may not be any more dimensions. I know this is a very radical statement and would probably have 90% of all the scientist jumping on my back punching and kicking me for even bringing this up, but the truth is we could be wrong in stating there are more dimensions. I’m not saying they don’t exist, I am just saying they may not exist and there is a big difference between the two statements. The strange part of all this is the fact if beings from another dimension exist we may not be able to detect them even if they could contact us. Who is to say if there is other dimensions and there is intelligent life in them and if there is that life may be able to detect much more than we can. There is probably much more to find in the dimensions we live and have yet to detect. An example of this is what we are capable of seeing. We can only see part of the light spectrum. I hate to put it this way, but we do have a lot of limitations when it comes to detecting things. It doesn’t only apply to our vision but also to our other senses. We only hear in a limited range. Our sense of smell leaves a lot to be desired, just ask any dog. None of our senses are 100% effective at detecting things. I’d like to play the devil’s advocate and say we do discover higher dimensions. Could we also discover lower ones? Our brains can’t process the thought of this. Some say a zero dimension is just a dot and the first dimension is more than one dot which creates a line. If the zero dimension is a dot what could be less than that? Having said that, is this so different than asking the question what would the fifth dimension look like. We don’t know the answer to either one of these problems, so couldn’t they be perceived as similar problems? Just because we named dimensions with numbers could we be wrong in our numbering system? Perhaps the 3rd dimension is really the 5th or the 50th, who really knows? I think it may be interesting to increase the speed of acceleration, because we may find other things than dimensions. An example of this might be new elements. This could be very important, because one or more new elements might lead to other things which will advance us in technology and science. The Western world has built a new acceleration device to be used in our 17 mile oval Hadron Collider. China is approaching the problem a different way, they are building a much larger collider. It is estimated it will be about 30 miles around. Interestingly enough a Chinese award winning physicist argued they really shouldn’t build it, because it just will never be worth it. Apparently he doesn’t believe the increase in size will relate to a much bigger increase in proficiency. One thing I haven’t talked about is the fact these increased speeds are said to be able to create microscopic black holes. Scientists tell us not to worry about it, because they claim these black holes fade out in a microsecond, at least this is what we were told currently. Even if this is true we are not talking about faster collisions in both the Hadron Collider and a future Chinese collider. Could these increased speeds be just enough to create micro black holes which will not disappear and only grow larger? If you ask a scientist they will say this is a stupid question, but many times in history what were called stupid questions came to pass. I have a hunch we may see things that puzzled us using this new equipment, but that doesn’t mean these strange things will be caused by the infringement of other dimensions. There is enough mystery to go around without throwing in more dimensions. |
