Is Nature Intelligent? There are things which were created by nature which are hard to believe. I guess this is one of the reasons some people suspect we are in some sort of zoo controlled by aliens who modify our surroundings at will. I don’t buy this, but nature has far more capability than we might know about. Does anyone really understand nature? I doubt if anyone can grasp what nature is truly capable of. How do some plants know enough to follow the sun when they don’t have any brains? How do they know how to protect themselves from predators by producing toxins which are either distasteful to the predators or deadly to them? Is there some sort of universal brain controlling nature, how can it learn? Sometimes what nature creates is so beautiful it is hard to describe. Are we being sent a message to be more interested in the beautiful things of life and less about violence. Light pillars appeared over a Russian city. The pillars were caused by a phenomenon which was created by ice crystals. Sunlight penetrated the crystals causing the beautiful display. Nature is responsible for all sorts of beautiful things. One has only to view swans on a calm lake or butterflies flitting from plant to plant to see nature in all its beauty. While all this is quite moving, we must not forget nature controls us. We are what we are, because nature allows it. What I am getting at is we could have looked and been created completed differently and we may find others from other worlds where the laws of nature are different and they look nothing like us. We might also find others who look exactly like us. What we don’t know is how nature might differ from world to world, or how it might be the same. We sort of get used to things being a certain way, but we might not know this is not always true, even on earth. There is a place on earth which has a storm which rages and produces severe lightning for 260 days a year. The storm takes place in Venezuela. This storm has a name and it is called the “Beacon of Maracaibo.” Sailors have used the lighting from the storm for centuries to guide their ships. The storm has been taking place in the state of Zetia, which has a lightning bolt on their flag. Some people have wondered how the storm on Jupiter could be raging for so long not realizing we had our own hundreds of years long storm on earth. When we think of forests, what do we think of? I think of plains full of trees and I think most of us do, but there is a forest which is completely underwater and is about 60,000 years old. The forest is in Alabama. Scientists claim this is a unique relic. Thousands of trees are still rooted in the dirt even though they are more than 60 feet underwater. The forest is under the Gulf Coast and scientists are very excited about it since it teaches them many things about the past, such as insect life, climate and many other things. It is truly a door into the past. It is suspected the forest was uncovered in 2004 by hurricane Ivan. Why does this forest still exist? Scientists believe it was buried under many layers of mud which protected it. A strange thing happened in an African uranium mine. As uranium was being extracted a scientist noticed something was wrong. The uranium being mined seemed to be “weaker.” Tests were conducted and scientists came from all over the world to examine the mine. At first no one could understand what was happening, then they figured it out. The scientists had found the remains of fission products and waste products from nuclear interactions. The scientists had stumbled upon a natural nuclear reactor which had been in operation for about 500,000 years. Nature had created something man was only able to duplicate recently and it did it 50,000 decades ago. No one ever would have believed this before it was found. Scientists believe the reactor didn’t explode because water slowed down the reaction and acted like the rods we use today. It is believed the reactor was around over two billion years ago even though the reaction didn’t start until much later. Most of us know there are some very useful crystals created by nature, but I wonder how many know there are places where the crystals are six and 7 times the height of an average man. Crystals like this appear in Giant Crystal Cave in Naica, Mexico where they are the biggest. How can a crystal grow this big? It turns out the cave was at a steady temperature of 136 degrees Fahrenheit for thousands of years making it ideal for crystal growth. What is the secret nature is holding over our bodies and our well-being? It seems once we get off this planet and into space things happen to our bodies which we don’t understand yet. Is it the gravity, light or something else on this planet regulating the way our bodies function? We found out about this after sending astronauts and cosmonauts into space. We noticed when they came back, they were changed and the changes became more severe the longer they were in space. Will we find out we are prisoners on this planet or is this something which can be fixed by supplying artificial gravity in space and an earth like atmosphere? Is there more to our life on earth than we suspect and must we first find out how to bring all the factors which make us what we are with us. I wonder how many know that nature inspired the invention of Velcro. It came about when an engineer went hiking into the woods, and when he returned his clothes were covered with burdock burrs. This is how the burdock spreads its seeds. The engineer was George de Mistral and he became curious and looked at the burrs under a microscope and noticed it had tiny hooks which enabled it to attach to things. This was the basis for Velcro. It was a product copied from nature. Does nature have some giant brain guiding it? Some believe it does, others say it is God. Is nature and God the same thing? I wouldn’t bet on it. There are many now who believe in intelligent design which means life, or the universe cannot have arisen by chance and was designed and created by some intelligent entity. Of course, this leads to someone asking who created that intelligence? It seems to me this might be something less than God, but something far more than us and certainly does not mean God doesn’t exist.
