The State of the 2016 Election

It is getting very hard for me to avoid commenting on the presidential election of 2016. Everybody has their own ideas about who they want to support and why and that is what makes this country great, there are just so many things visible this time that someone has to talk about them since the media doesn’t always mention them. I am going to try very hard not to take sides and in truth there is no one candidate which I can say is completely satisfactory to me, although I am hoping a particular one will win. Let me talk about the Democratic race first.

The Democratic Party probably had a problem trying to find someone to run against Clinton. When someone has almost 500 super delegates in their pocket before the race starts, this is almost an impossible lead to overcome. I can see it now, a smoke filled room and Democratic leaders all sitting around wondering how they were going to convince anyone to run against Hillary to make it look like a race and that the people had spoken. Someone gets up and says I have a great idea, there is this unelectable senator named Sanders who I bet would be glad to run for president, because he would think he has a chance even when he doesn’t. The politicians all clap and pat him on the back and contact Sanders who in turn sees this as a challenge and really thinks he might have a chance. He runs against her as we now know and even though he does better than expected, everyone knows he is a Socialist and visited the Soviet Union on his honeymoon.

If a strong candidate ran against Hillary and stated she has shown bad judgment many times in her decisions, not the least of which was putting the mail server in her basement, Benghazi, trade pacts, bailouts, the Iraq war vote and such she might have been in trouble. One other part of this which doesn’t seem to be mentioned very much is that Clinton was the one who decided which emails to erase from the server. It sounds very suspicious to me and yet Sanders decided to never mention this and indeed even stated he was sick and tired of hearing about Hillary’s emails. Does this sound like a candidate who REALLY thinks he can win? Sanders preaches taking money from the rich and redistribution. No one wants to see the middle class crushed and shrinking, but in America I don’t think the redistribution of wealth is the answer, this isn’t a communist country. I am guessing here, but I think this idea is not as popular as one would think even though many resent the fact the rich are raking in all the money while it never reaches anyone else. I really don’t believe those in the know ever thought he was a serious candidate. This is true no matter how hard it look like he is trying to win.

The Republican process is like a circus. The nomination process is going in the same direction as the congress goes in and that is gridlock. Each candidate who is left is out for himself rather than for the good of the party and the people. The party is in a state of panic at the idea Donald Trump might be the candidate and has go so far as suggesting if he wins they will try and prevent him from his rightful role. I can’t ever remember either party in my lifetime trying to do something like this. It makes the Republican Party look like it just doesn’t care about the will of the people and will do anything to get the politicians what they want and the public be dammed.

Donald Trump has shown he is really a modified conservative liberal, if there is such a thing. Guess what, it looks like the public is tired of the conservative’s no bending philosophy. The public is rebelling against the establishment and voting for the most anti-establishment people they can find which are Trump and Cruz. Donald Trump is rude, crude and changes his mind a lot on positions. He is entertaining people and brings a sort of showmanship to the debates, and uses his own money which scares the heck out of the lobbyists, because they won’t be able to own him. He set a bad example for children and many people have said they can’t let their children watch debates he is in, because he is so crude you never know what he is going to say and what race or religion he is going to denounce. Even religious people are so disgusted with the establishment many of them are voting for Trump despite his vulgar ways.

The other sort of rebel is Ted Cruz. It is a well-known fact Ted Cruz is endorsed by the Tea Party which caused a lot of the stagnation in Washington. Cruz had been known to try and stop bills from passing by talking in congress for many hours. Last time it was 21 hours before they could cut him off. What I find incredible about Cruz is something Trump picked up on. Cruz will say one thing and when presented with evidence of the opposite will completely ignore it and continue. I also find it reprehensible that he told the voters Carson had quite the race to get the votes of his supporters. Maybe because of his ways this is why he is so unliked in congress?

Marko Rubio presents very well as far as his appearance and speech are concerned. If you wanted someone to give a patriotic speech he would be the one you wanted. Unfortunately that is as far as it goes. He has been branded as just another one term establishment senator with no experience and who can’t even hold his own during the debates. Missing so many votes in congress hasn’t helped him either and if he loses Florida his home state, this will be one of the reasons why. When he tried to be as vulgar as Trump it was not a good fit. He seemed like a bad child saying dirty things.

John Kasich is the governor of Ohio. He has tried to take on the mantle of the reasonable person in the election and touted how he balanced a budget when he was in Washington. He reeks of the establishment, first of the Washington establishment and then of the state establishment, so no matter what he says people will just think of him as another hack. It may be nice to hear someone trying to be reasonable, but many feel it is just a strategy and maybe not the true reflection of the man.
