What If?
What if everything we thought was wrong, or at least a good part of it? We believe the human brain controls our bodies and is responsible for our thinking and consciousness. This certainly sounds reasonable doesn’t it? Well it did until a few years ago when scientists discovered a person without one who had an IQ at least as high as the average person. Doctors were shocked when they took an X-Ray of his head and he had no brain, just a tiny blob of tissue above his spine. What did this prove if anything? It could mean our thoughts and such may be coming from other parts of our body or if most of your skull is empty other parts of our bodies pitch in and help with the thought process. Whatever it means, it is not what we expected.
We look out into space and we find black holes. We see space is accelerating and things are drifting further apart and we come to the conclusion that someday all the planets and stars will drift apart and die alone in the cold of space but what if there is something else happening which would make this theory wrong? That is the problem with theories, often they are wrong. Perhaps what we see as heavenly bodies accelerating and spreading is not what it looks like. Maybe there is a great attraction pulling on these bodies and it will eventually pull them all together. Could this fit into the Big Bang theory? Maybe it does because all these bodies might eventually be pulled together and create a compressed body which would then explode creating another universe where things happen all over again.
We have a habit of naming things with names which seem to describe what they are which are often wrong. Look at some of the animal names and you will see what I mean. Did you use a pencil lately, not very many of us do anymore? A pencil is named a lead pencil yet a pencil has no lead in it. There really are no silk worms, the creatures which create silk are caterpillars. Many people have pets which are known as guinea pigs. First of all, they are not pigs, not from Guinea and are rodents. A bald eagle is not bald it has feathers on its head. We are good at giving things misleading names. Take that cute creature known as the Koala Bear. It isn’t a bear it is a marsupial. One of the favorite cookies in Scotland is shortbread. Notice I said it was a cookie.
We think we are the only inhabitants of this planet which are intelligent. What if we are wrong? There could be a couple of reasons for this to be wrong. First of all, we humans have limited senses which means there could be things on this planet we are incapable of detecting. Our vision is limited to a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum as is our hearing. There could possibly be others here which we didn’t even know existed. Secondly, there could be intelligent live here which we don’t think is intelligent. It might live in the sea for example. Since most of our planet is covered with water, we might never know about them since we know less about the sea than we do about the surface of the moon. It has been suggested there might even be intelligent life living in orbit around our planet or in space. We found there was some life on earth which can survive in space which surprised the heck out of the scientists. It wasn’t very intelligent but it proved this could happen.
We believe the countries on earth run themselves even though they have different systems of governments. It may not always be to the benefit of the people in them but we think of them this way. What if this was not true at all? What if there was a group of rich and powerful people, people so powerful they could dictate what happens in countries. I am not talking about the everyday small things; I am talking about governmental policy. Some people already believe this. They also believe it is happening in every country. Take the US for example. There are a large number of former Goldman Sachs employees in our government in positions of power and the same is true for many other countries in the world. Is this just a coincidence or is there a reason for this?
We are constantly bombarded with ads which tell us the benefits of drugs. One would think there should be no more disease with all the drugs on the market or at least no more symptoms and yet every once in a while, we see a drug pulled off the market by the FDA because it is ineffective or even dangerous. I guess I should say they are mostly all dangerous but the drugs which are pulled off are even worse. We think we have the best anti-monopoly laws yet drug and other monopolies seem to reign supreme in this country. We pay far more for drugs than other countries just because we are the richest country which makes us a target. As for other products when is the last time you saw a sale on gasoline where it was buy two gallons and get one free? The difference in the price of gasoline from one station to the next is almost never more than about a couple of cents or at the most ten cents between big brand stations and bargain stations.
There are those who believe life is not what it seems. There are several theories on this. One states we are nothing more than holograms which were programed into some advanced computer and they say they can prove it with calculation showing there is no outer space just holographic stars and planets. Most of the religions of the world believe we have a soul and this is what lasts after we die. Then there are those who think we are reborn until we get our lives in order. This just goes to show you we can’t all agree on what life truly is. Probably the most bizarre theory states there are more of us in parallel universes which contain us doing every possible choice on what to do in any situation.
