The Truth Facts Story It is sort of an anniversary for me because I have been writing articles on my website for about 15 years. The first 10 years the site was Aboutfacts.net which is now a food website and the last 5 years were under Truthfacts.net. Some of you may be wonder why I changed the name of the website if you have been with me since the beginning; the site was getting 25,000 hits a day. Not bad for a site which never advertised. When one person designs a website themselves it gets complicated especially when I first started since I had to know code. It was not easy like it is today where anyone can design a website using software on the site which allows for easy placement of anything. Long ago I had decided I wanted a voice about things I was interested in and believed there had to be others who were interested in the same things. My first attempt at creating a website was to learn html the code used to design sites and go to a free website. Free websites were available in a lot of places but they didn’t have much capacity and if more than a couple of people wanted to get on at once the one I had would slow down so much it would become unusable. This wasn’t a problem in the very beginning because I had hardly anyone coming to it since I couldn’t afford to pay for advertising. I tried all the usual ways of getting my message out there for free, such as posting my site on search engines and directories but when you used a free site you had to use a long address with the address at the end such as http://www.FreeSite.AboutFacts.net. It was a real cheesy way to go and didn’t attract a lot of attention. I decided I had to at least pay for a site and began to look for an inexpensive alternative and found one. It was a small site and I had to buy a name for it, but I did get my own site. I had it for a few months but as readership picked up it became inadequate. I filled the site with data and couldn’t add any more pages so I had to go larger. I purchased one with much more capacity from a host service in Romania. Yes, there are hosting services all over the world and if they are good it doesn’t matter where they are because it makes no difference to the readers. Everything was going along great for a couple of years and then I got hit with a law suit. Apparently one of the photos I had online which had been said to be in the Public Domain, which meant anyone could use it was not public domain. It was a tiny photo of the Golden Gate Bridge and had come off a government website. I explained to the lawyers it was just a mistake, but they were having none of it. I was lucky to get out of the suit for $750 dollars which gave me a license to use the photo, which I never did again. This is why I only post photos I took myself and no live outside links on Truthfacts.net. As time went by the expanded site became too small and again was filled up with data. I experimented with the design every once in a while, but kept it mostly the same. The host company offered me a deal on an unlimited site which meant it could never fill up and I never would be charged for having too much traffic. I decided to take it and set about transferring all my site data and designed pages to the new site. When I went to try it, it didn’t work. I contacted the host and they told me it was now my responsibility to get it to work because they didn’t provide any technical assistance to this kind of site. I said why didn’t you tell me that when I signed up. I also added the fact even if that was true it should have been working when you gave it to me. They refused to do anything, so I contacted my credit card company who stopped payment. They had also received a payment before that for other things to do with the site. They became very angry when I had told them I wanted my money back if they didn’t fix the site. They really blew their stack when the credit card company refunded both payments to me and kept my website name tied up for a year, so that is why I had to change the name from Aboutfacts.net to Truthfacts.net. The host company I am with today is in the United States and they are quick to fix any problems which don’t happen very much. I learned my lesson with trying to save money because I am not paying much more with the American company but I am being treated so much better. In the beginning I had tried a lot of fancy things on the site, but after years of testing designs I have come to the conclusion simple is better. I believe a site should be easy to navigate, not have popups except where necessary to help the navigator. The colors should be easy on the eyes and the text easy to read. In the beginning my site was only designed for computers but now it can be read on cell phones and tablets which is a necessity. I have also decided to let readers suggest topics for articles and you never know what might come up. Recently I got a compliment from some expert web designers who complimented me on the way the site looked. I didn’t expect that but all compliments are appreciated. Over the years I have also been contacted by a television show who was interested in some things I had to say and have spoken to many different UFO investigators and authors who have published UFO books. I am grateful for the readers. The site is a hobby of mine and I derive no income from it while it does cost money to run. I hope people enjoy the fact there will be no advertisements covering part of the screen as they attempt to read an article. That is one of my pet peeves.
