More from the Miscellaneous Desk I was thinking about how many U.S. memory chip makers have bit the dust, because they couldn’t compete with foreign companies. It makes you wonder how one American DRAM memory chip manufacturer not only is surviving but making a big dent in the market. The company is based in Boise, Idaho not in Silicon Valley as one might suspect and is named Micron. You might recognize the name better if I tell you their memory chips are branded “Crucial.” There are only three surviving companies who make these chips so survival was quite a feat. It just goes to prove U.S. companies have the ability to not only compete, but to make a nice profit. People in a commercial airliner have spotted something strange in the sky. No, it was not a disc shaped craft. It was an aircraft. The aircraft passed their plane going at an incredible speed which was estimated to be in excess of 4,000 miles per hour. If the witnesses are correct about the speed some are suggesting we have a plane which might be the replacement for the SR-71 Blackbird, the plane which holds many speed records. If it is a fighter plane it would have no competition yet. It could also have been the Aurora, a secret plane which is said to be capable of reaching orbit. I remember a Russian general saying we had it and the race for a space capable plane has been lost. There has been a lot of talk about opioid deaths. Doctors have been put on notice they could be punished for prescribing to many opioid drugs. The news has had blaring headlines about opioid abuse. It is getting to the point many people who need opioids to combat pain can no longer get them. That is why what I am going to tell you is so hard to believe. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have just acknowledged the number of prescription opioid deaths has been significantly inflated. It seems the CDC was measuring the opioid problem the wrong way. It turns out many of the doses they measured as prescription opioids were street drugs and the panic they caused was totally uncalled for. Shame on them, how could they be so incompetent? This sounded hard to believe when I first heard it, but there you are. Ice was found inside tiny diamonds. The diamonds came from many different places. What is even stranger is the fact the ice is of a type never seen before. It comes from deep inside the planet. It is known as ice-VII. This may indicate there are more mysteries deep within the earth than we suspect. Water has been found in diamonds before, but not ice under pressure. Research in China has shown blindness in mice can be cured. They do it with the use of gold and titanium wires. The wires replace the deteriorated photoreceptors which respond to light. Artificial ones are created using the wires. The wires which are studded with gold were able to complete the connection between the brain and eyes again. Just when we think we know everything about the earth we live on, we find out something new and sometimes it is not something good. The earth’s magnetic field is necessary for life. We need the magnetic field to protect us from the solar wind from the sun and cosmic radiation. The problem is the magnetic field is weakening and it is happening relatively fast. Scientists think the magnetic poles could flip. The last flip occurred about 780,000 years ago and almost happened again about 40,000 years ago. There is an area called the South Atlantic Anomaly which stretches from Chile to Zimbabwe. Radiation is getting through there. It is suspected there is something under the ocean causing this. Scientists have just bred a sheep human hybrid. Researches at Stanford University accomplished this task. I can’t help but feel this is wrong, but I do understand why it is being done. The scientists want to grow human organs in sheep or at least organs which a human body will not reject. When you have 22 people dying every day, because they can’t get an organ, something has to be done, but is this the right way to do it? There has been work going on for years where scientists are trying to grow human organs in labs from a person’s own cells. This would be a much better solution if it can be done, but I guess we have to explore every avenue. Naysayers are saying again that a suspected planet called Nibiru will destroy earth in 2018. If I had a nickel for every time some disaster has been announced through the years which would destroy the earth I would be rich. Nibiru is also known as Planet X. This time a numerologist has announced the coming disaster. Numerologists believe the study of numbers should be used to see how they affect human affairs. Yeah, I am going to believe this guy. Pardon me for laughing out loud. We heard this in 1995, 2003, 2012 and also heard that every 3,600 years Planet X which it is also called comes close to earth causing destruction. |
