Interesting Archaeological Finds It is amazing to me; how many archaeological finds are still being made. The places they are being found also make the finds even more incredible. I mean, how much undiscovered stuff can be found in Egypt? People have been digging there for centuries, and yet the finds keep coming and in spots which one would have thought would have been exhausted. Take for example one of the latest finds. It was found not that far away from the Great Pyramid in the ancient cemetery which holds the bodies of important officials. A hidden large L shaped structure was found in a part of the cemetery where there are no above ground features. The experts are not sure how big it is but they know it is at least 33 feet long. The area is being excavated currently and hopefully we will discover what this structure is doing there and why it was hidden. A hidden palace which dates back 3400 years has been found. Archaeologists believe it was a sort of retreat for King Thutmose the 3rd of ancient Egypt. The palace was located in the Sinai. The date was obtained by examining shattered pottery and by the layers of dirt, but most important they found two objects with the King’s name on them. A long tunnel cut through stone and about 4/5ths of a mile long has been found under an ancient Egyptian temple. It has been called a miracle of architecture due to the construction methods used. Archaeologists think it might somehow be related to Cleopatra. Her tomb has been sought out for centuries. Cleopatra was the last Pharaoh of Egypt and Egypt fell under the Romans upon her death. Scientists have found rocks which date back 3.7 billion years. You might think this is not important, but you would be wrong. Examining the rocks have proven to be very beneficial in finding out what the earth was like that far back in time. It was found the magnetic field was about the same, but they found out the magnetic field back then may have relied on other sources than it does today. The geologists want to know how could the magnetic field have been this strong that far back in time? Speaking about ancient times, the Vatican library is getting more attention lately. Could it be there are writings, which were created long in the past, and are these writings being held there, which might answer some questions about the ancient world which have been puzzling us for centuries? Many believe the answer is yes. This topic has even come up during UFO investigations. When something is mostly secret people begin to give it all sorts of credit as far as its contents. There is no doubt there are thousands, if not more, ancient documents there, as of their value in answering ancient mysteries that is in doubt by some, but believed by others. I wouldn’t think the remains of an ancient farm could be found, but I would be wrong. Over 7000 years ago this farm existed in Serbia. The farm was said to be very large and located near what is now Jarkovac. How big was the farm? It was about 32 acres. It was said to have been run by the Vinca people. It is believed the Vincas were one of the very first farmers and it is thought the farmers not only raised crops but also goats, cattle and other livestock. I guess the reason it was found was there were the ruins of many burnt houses on the farm. One of the surprises was the fact the farm was not near water. Archaeologists came upon a grave near Oppin, Germany, which really surprised them. The grave was found during excavations for a network line. The grave is dated at 4200 years old. The grave is of a man who died between the ages of 40 to 60 years old. In the grave the archaeologists found a boulder placed on the man which they believe was put there to stop him from rising from the dead. This sounds like something from a horror movie. During that time people were said to believe in revenants, that is reanimated dead people. We call them zombies today. Sometimes something is found which really makes us think about the meaning. This was the case when archaeologists in Brazil found petroglyphs right next to dinosaur foot prints. I know what you are probably thinking, were the petroglyphs and foot prints the same age? The answer is no. It looks like the ancients came across the foot prints which were already millions of years old and recognized there was something special about them and decided to create the drawings near them. It seems the creators of the petroglyphs were careful not to damage the foot prints. It is believed the oldest the petroglyphs can be is about 9400 years. We have probably all heard about the ancient Maya calendar, but archaeologists have discovered another native calendar at the Pueblo ruins in Colorado. The calendar is said to have been made in the 13th century A.D. The Pueblo people left records in the form of rock art depicting scenes of everyday life. That was not all however, they also left evidence of complicated geometry and astronomy. The first human representations of a people who lived on the Iberian Peninsula of Spain during the late Bronze Age have been found. These people were part of the Tartessos culture. Their language is now extinct, it was called Tartessian. They were said to be accomplished metal workers. Some of the representations were damaged. It is thought some of the representations might have been of their gods. Archaeologists think they may have found the ship which belonged to Captain Cook. The name of the ship was HMS Endeavour which was later renamed to Lord Sandwich. We had sunk the ship during the Revolutionary War. For years a museum has pushed to have the ship given public recognition. There is an ancient pyramid located in Indonesia which has been dated at about 25000 years old. Due to the fact people lived in caves before 9000 years ago in the area and were unorganized and due to the type of construction, it has been suggested that humans at the time could not have built this structure. You can imagine the storm of protests at this statement from scientists. The structure is known as Gunung Padang. A series of doors have been said to have been found in the Great Pyramid and experts do not know where they lead. The most famous Egyptian archaeologist in the world is Zahi Hawass and he said he is excited to see where those doors lead. It is being said again, archaeologists have said they have found giant skeletons which prove giants lived on the earth. This comes under the title of forbidden archaeology. Photos were shown and the official story was archaeologists were following a gold vein when they came upon the skeletons. I have to say I don’t buy this one. Some of the photos seem to me to clearly be photoshopped.
