Very Ancient Paintings and Petroglyphs
While I have many varied interests, which have led me to creating a website so I could share them with others, I am particularly interested in very ancient art. I am talking about the type we find in caves and carved into rock which are known as petroglyphs. I think one of the reasons I feel this way is I would like to know what these people thought about things like their surroundings, gods and other aspects of their lives. Recently an amazing find was made when an eight mile long rock face was found to have many thousands of paintings created using a red pigment from ocher in panels upon its face. The find was made in the Amazon rainforest and the pictures have been dated around 11,800 to 12,600 years old and as with any of these things, they could be dated as older in the future.
Many of the paintings depict the animal life of the region in this time. Some of the pictures are quite stunning. There are three places on the stone face where these pictures appear the most and one as 12 panels and thousands of individual pictographs according to a CNN article. It makes one wonder how many generations it took to paint all these pictures or maybe even centuries. One of the interesting things in the paintings is there are some which show half-man, half-animal pictures. What was the artist thinking when he painted this? Was this some sort of paranormal endeavor where the artist was painting what he thought might be a religious figure? When dating this type of art, we have found some so ancient it is hard to imagine why anyone wanted to paint it. I am talking about rock art which has been dated at over 44,000 years old.
When experts look at this stuff, it suggests even the oldest found has certain elements which to them mean they came from even older petroglyphs and paintings which are yet to be found. Could some of this art work have been created by Neanderthals? Maybe some other so called branches of the modern human created some of the art. A lot of the art seems to be a historic record of what was seen by the people of the time. This is where it gets a little creepy. There are some very strange drawings of what seem to be living beings who are not human. Many might just put this off by saying they were just representations of people in costumes such as high priests or medicine men. That might sound reasonable except for the fact there are places where exact replicas of saucer shaped UFOs with portholes are drawn on cave walls. Where would ancient people get the idea to do this unless it was something they experienced? There doesn’t seem to be any other explanation. To those who say it was just a coincidence those drawings look like UFOs, I say it is too much of one.
Assuming those drawings are UFOs could that mean some of the drawings of beings could be aliens which came down to earth and actually got out of their ships and visited the Stone Age people? If this happened, they must have thought of them as gods. This predates the ideas put forward on the television show Ancient Aliens. It would mean they came here before there were any civilizations we know of.
Some scientists are now considering the fact the Neanderthals could have indeed painted some of the oldest paintings. You have to wonder what their thought process was like. They were not modern humans, but they did have a bigger brain than us, but recently it has been shown brain size may not be as important to intelligence as we once thought.
This recent discovery in Brazil surprised scientists because usually art which is extremely old only has symbols painted. It was believed pictures of animals and such didn’t come along until about 20,000 years ago and this has been turned around by the discovery since it contains plenty of pictures of animals. This art points to the fact there must be even older art somewhere. Humans or Neanderthals for that matter just didn’t jump up one day and say I am going to paint all the life around me. Yes, there had to be a first, but it seems this find is so complex the idea almost had to come from something which was already painted.
There have been pictures found in cave art which look exactly like the type of alien we talk about the most and that is the Gray. An alien which is said to be small and thin with a big head, large and black eyes. Is this another so called coincidence? This has been found painted in a few different places.
Some of the drawings and petroglyphs have been created in very hard to reach places. Why would they be? I think the answer is the artist wanted them to survive and not having people destroy his work or painting over it or in the case of a petroglyph carving over it. This meant it must have been hard for the artist to create his work in the location he chose. One of the things the ancient artists liked to paint was a hand print. We find them in a lot of places. It is more like the area was painted around a person’s hand and when his hand was removed, a perfect replica could be seen on the stone. To think we are looking at actual hands from all those thousands of years ago makes my hair stand on end. This is how people are going to feel thousands of years from now when they look at movies from our time and news film.
Some of the animals drawn are no longer with us and a prime example is the Wooly Mammoth, but there are others. One has to wonder if some of the other weird pictures of beings could also have been aliens. Perhaps they thought there was no harm in visiting such primitive people. There is a theory which states the earth has been visited by aliens since it was formed because for some unknown reason we are of special interest to aliens.
As we keep building, digging and cutting down forests, we are going to find other things we never expected and some might rival or even surpass the 44,000 year old site. Archaeologists just don’t know what they don’t know, if you get my meaning.
